Animaniacs: A Gigantic Adventure

Animaniacs: A Gigantic Adventure is a pretty straightforward platformer. Play as all three characters of the 1990s TV series (Yakko, Wakko, or Dot), pick up power-ups placed around each level, avoid enemies, get to the end of the level. All standard arcade fare.

7_1One aspect of the game that fails are the controls, which aren’t quite as sharp as they could have been. There’s also not nearly enough variety within the levles. After a while, it is easy to get tired of doing pretty much the same old thing. If you are a platformer fan, then this won’t necessarily bother you, but fans of the series looking for the typical Animaniacs humor will be left wanting. The only jokes are sound bites sampled from the show, so you won’t hear anything new. There is a bit of humor throughout the game, but it doesn’t compare to an episode of the cartoon.

Animaniacs still works as a simple platformer. It’s simple, colorful and somewhat interesting, but considering the source material, one would have expected for it to be a bit more funny in its presentation. Instead, it’s a simple ‘if it works, don’t fix it’ kind of game.
